The German Dance Association (in German Dachverband Tanz Deutschland, abbreviation DTD), formerly Ständige Konferenz Tanz (Continual Dance Conference), has been working as an official nationwide association for artistic dance in Germany since 2006.
Founded on the awareness of its participants that dance must speak with one voice in the German political landscape, Dachverband Tanz Deutschland e.V. currently operates as a network of the most important dance associations and institutions – regardless of any aesthetic differences, varying production methods and specific careers in dance.
The DTD develops position papers and concepts for the promotion of dance in Germany. It brings campaigns and initiatives into being and carries them out in its projects. Since 2016 the organisation has been involved in the nationwide funding programs TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund, Tanzland-Fonds for guest performance co-operations and creative transfer. Since 2018 the Dachverband Tanz has been the organizer of the German Dance Award. Since 2020, it has been running the funding programmes DIS-TANZEN, tanz:digital and DIS-TANZ-START (for dance graduates) as part of NEUSTART KULTUR.
Furthermore, the DTD supports the five main German Dance Archives in its continous cooperation. Central questions of dance pedagogy are intensively discussed. It maintains close cooperation with the Gesellschaft für Tanzforschung e.V. (Society for Dance Research), among others.
The projects of the DTD are funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Federal Cultural Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Cultural Foundation of the Federal States as well as foundations, sponsors and donors.
